Generally yellow brass is used as well as part of the lettering or ornamentation. Solid Gold, gold fill or gold plating can be used as well for ornamentation. Some silver sefer Torah cases styles are also made with velvet.
Sephardic Torah cases are used by most Sephardi congregations for their Sephardic Torah scrolls, which are generally 50 or 56cms tall. Ashkenazi shuls and some Sephardi shuls bind their Torah scrolls onto Torah rollers, etz chaims and dress them with a Torah cover, known as a Meil (meh-eel) or Torah mantle.
Please note that these handcrafted sterling silver Sephardic Torah cases start at approximately $7000 for the silver with velvet and the all silver sefer Torah cases start at around $9000. We believe these are among the finest sefer Torah cases made and that our prices and service are excellent. If these Torah cases are within your budget feel free to contact us for further details.
